How To Stay Motivated

This week has been insane and it’s not even over. From loads of projects creeping in and the stress of scheduling for classes, I’m definitely getting a little burnt out. I don’t know about anyone else but sometimes I feel a little crazy when the weekends stop feeling like weekends so I decided that after finishing up this week of work I’m taking the weekend to catch up on homework, notes, and anything else that seems to be piling up so that next week is hopefully better than this one.

The hardest part about knowing I need to get all of these assignments done over the weekend is being motivated to do it when it’s typically my only time to relax. This is a problem I’ve struggled with ever since high school. Finally, this past year, I feel like I’ve really mastered a system that helps me get everything done when I really don’t want to do it. So here are my personal tips that help me accomplish everything I need to do without getting distracted.

1. Going to bed early the night before really helps me when waking up in the morning. If I stay up super late, I often struggle with being tired all day or sleeping in too much which still causes me to be tired.

2. Wake up earlier in the morning and do my work then. I always used to say I work better at night, but it turned out that I just had a terrible sleep schedule so I only felt truly awake at night. I actually do my best work anytime before 2-3pm.

3. Finding my homework spot for the day. Sometimes I am able to get a lot of work done in my room but other times, I like to get a coffee and work at Starbucks. This truly depends on the day for me but I now know that changing location for work can be essential to actually getting it done.

4. Lastly, I give something to look forward to later in the day. Once I’ve accomplished all of my work I am able to take the rest of the night to do whatever I want. If I don’t see an end in sight when working, that’s when my motivation fades.

Hopefully, this helps other people who struggle with finding the motivation to complete homework like me.

  1. It sounds like you've had an incredibly busy week! I can relate to that feeling when weekends stop feeling like true breaks. It's awesome that you've found a system that works for you to stay productive even when motivation is low. Changing environments can definitely help to refresh the mind! I hope this weekend helps you catch up and reset for the next week.

  2. As someone who has been busy all semester, I know how you feel about being burnt out. I don't remember the last weekend that I've been able to relax the whole time, but I'm usually still able to find some time to myself. These tips are very helpful and I will definitely try to follow these so the rest of the semester goes smoothly!
