First Time Live Tweeting: How it Went

This past weekend I attempted live tweeting for the first time. It was a whirlwind for sure. I honestly didn’t realize how hard it was to update my followers while being at the event. I choose to live tweet about my sororities alumni luncheon they have every year for homecoming. Once I got there I was so excited about seeing my friends come back that have already graduated and I honestly didn’t want to be on my phone. I wanted to be able to catch up with everyone and enjoy the company I was surrounded by. Twenty minutes would go by and I would realize I have to post an update on the event. It was stressful to say the least but I did learn something from it.

Live tweeting takes a lot of dedication. When you are responsible for live tweeting it's not about enjoying yourself as much as it is about constantly updating people about what’s going on. Although it is an amazing public relations tool, it’s definitely not one that I excel at.  I have a new respect for influencers who do this regularly for their job. I was struggling to keep up with trying to post, chat with friends, and take pictures. Trust me when I say the struggle is real.

Aside from the craziness that comes with live tweeting I really enjoyed myself. I got to catch up with old friends and it gave me just the boost I needed with midterms around the corner. We all ate a bunch of food and had even more laughs. An event that was only supposed to be an hour ended up going on for a lot longer than expected. It was really interesting to see the alumni who had come before me grow personally and professionally. I was inspired by all of the successful alumni who were once in my shoes. All in all, I definitely won’t take these memories for granted and I can’t wait to come back next year.

  1. I would agree that live-tweeting can be very stressful at times, trying to keep your twitter followers constantly updated while also trying to enjoy and be present at the event you are at! Even though you said you felt stressed, trying to tweet, catch up with alumni and, take photos, it seemed like a very fun-filled event! I bet you did better than you thought! I also have a newfound respect for influencers who are constantly keeping their followers up to date about their social lives. This can even be said for social media marketers who run their companies social platforms, keeping their companies loyal followers up to date on company events, product drops, and so much more.

  2. I also agree that live-tweeting was a stressful experience! I am not on social media much, and I definitely don't post that often, so having to remember to take pictures and keep my followers updated was difficult! I was definitely not made to be an influencer, but I also have a new appreciation for them! I didn't realize how much dedication it takes to constantly take pictures and post about what you are doing until now.

  3. I agree that live-tweeting was stressful, as I had a similar experience with the homecoming parade. It feels as time flies by as you are doing both tweeting and enjoying the event at the same time. Before reading your blog I had not thought of people who do this as part of their job!
