Reset Routine for When Life Crazy

This week caffeine has no longer been a want, but an essential. It feels like I have a thousand things to do now that the school year is picking up. I had an exam this past Tuesday and now I am faced with the task of looking at every assignment that I put aside when studying. I am normally days ahead when it comes to doing my work and planning for meetings but recently I feel out of whack. So for this blog I wanted to do something different and talk about how I get myself to stay on track even when life starts to get crazy.

The first thing I do once I realize I’m behind my normal schedule is breathe. This may sound silly but I’ve learned that stressing over things you can’t change will only make it worse. Whatever I have to do to calm myself down I make that my first priority. Most of the time I will go on a short walk or do a self care routine. Next I sit down and write out everything that needs to be accomplished to stay organized and so nothing slips through the cracks. I break each task up and put them in order of what needs to be prioritized. For example, if I have homework due at midnight I’ll start that first, then clean my room. As I complete each task I make sure to let myself feel accomplished to help motivate me to finish my list. Doing all of these things at once can be hard if you’re like me and struggle to stay motivated. So my last and most important tip is to reward yourself while you’re working and make it fun. I like to listen to music and grab a coffee from Starbucks. This routine is customizable so it can work for a lot of different people.

After all of that work the catching up is officially over. Now is when I plan ahead in order to hopefully not let this happen for a while. I don’t know about you, but now is the time when I lay in my bed and watch my favorite show. The best part is, I deserve it.

  1. I totally agree with you on this! I don't know what it is but I have been feeling out of whack and behind on my schedule as well! I keep forgetting things, or missing small points from assignments solely because I didn't add this, or forgot to do that. However when that happens I do almost the same thing you do! I usually set aside a specific time out of the week to get those assignments done, get myself a coffee, and then find a place to sit down and lock in. If I tell myself its an absolute necessity, that usually gets me pretty motivated.

  2. We have very similar reset routines! I also love to do breathing exercises because I can feel it actively calming me down as I'm doing it. I have also added walks to my reset this year, and I've been loving it. I like to do 1-2 miles around the Green Monster because it's actually a beautiful stroll. Last week, when things started to get really stressful, I added something I've been calling a "Sanity Shower." It's basically a shower, not because I'm dirty, but just because I need an excuse to be alone and still. I hope you enjoyed watching your show!
