Every day, most of us pick up our phones and get on Instagram, Snapchat, or even Facebook. Social media has taken over most of our lives. So it's an valid thought to wonder what are the pros and cons of platforms we use on a daily basis are. As a marketing major in college I love social media for different reasons than others. When coming up with ways to promote a company, create strong branding, and help others to learn about a product, social media is taking over the game. Its a space that helps brands become more visible to larger audiences. You are also able to add links increasing the traffic on the company's website. Social media has so much potential to grow business and create strong brand identity. There's so many more pros to social media when it comes to the marketing and public relations departments of a business. It also improves search engine rankings, aids in creating brand loyalty, and even has higher conversion rates than any other marketing tactics. Now, your probably thinking if social media is so great what could possibly be the cons of using it to promote your business. Well, adding social media to the marketing mix has created a lot more competition for companies. It also opens up the opportunity for negative feedback. One wrong post could even damage a brand's reputation permanently due to its viral nature. Aside from these clear cons, there are more that many may not think about. For example, the brand could be hacked causing sensitive information to be leaked. It's also difficult for a company to measure their social media's return on investment for their posts. By putting together both the pros and the cons of social media its now time to make a decision. Would you add social media to your promotional toolbox?
